Welcome! This is where I will record all my travels (not in order because I'm going to be writing overviews of places not tacky "dear travel book, today I woke up and had breakfast....'' so, dont worry. This might actually be interesting!

M.T.B - Tamarindo Act 1

I am going to start this story in Houston Texas, not that I have a choice though because really, the past is the past and all I’m doing is telling you about it. So Houston Texas; It’s not at all what I expected. When I think of Texas a few things come to mind: deserts, cowboys, and drought instead we were greeted by rainy and green. But, despite what I thought Houston was very green and the air felt clean and fresh. When we got off the plane we were brought to two different lines each with a sign. One sign said “U.S. RESIDENTS ONLY” and the other sign basically just said “EVERYONE ELSE.’’ Beside the U.S. residents sign there was a woman reading out the sign in a very thick accent. I heard her say “ and Canadian residents” but since the sign clearly said U.S. residents only nobody really believed me. Not enough to go stand in that line anyways. So we went and stood in the ‘Everyone else’ line for around 45 minutes without moving more than 5 meters when we decided to go ask somebody if what we heard was correct. Well, turns out that we could have been in the faster line all along! So 15 minutes later we were through customs and in another line so that they could check our passports again (just incase we had gotten through the past 30 passport checks with a fake passport). Then finally, we were through security with all our bags. We were booked to stay at the Marriot Courtyard and there was supposed to be a shuttle bus running every hour to the airport. Over an hour later there was still no Courtyard Bus like they said there would be. We saw every other Marriott bus but every single one refused to take us because they said that we had to take the Courtyard bus because our hotel wasn't on their route. Finally we decided to take a taxi to our hotel and we arrived and got ready for dinner. We decided to go to Chile’s and so we took the shuttle bus over. Looking back now, we should have left the second we saw how crowded the place was since it was a Friday night but we stayed and waited 15 minutes for our table. We ordered our food and then an hour later it arrived. By then we were tired, grumpy, and sick of waiting. We went back to our hotel and slept as much as we could before having to get up at 6 the next morning.

The next morning of travelling was uneventful. We got to Costa Rica without any problems and from the airport we took the shuttle (that was on time) to the car rental place and we got our car. Looking back, its funny how the car rental company failed to tell us that the lock button on the key doesn’t actually lock all of the doors. From there we drove the 4 hour drive to Tamarindo, a small little surfer village. We arrived at our rental place that was just outside of town and it was a house out of 7 in a little gated area with a small pool. We got out of the car to collect our keys and 3 minutes later we came back to our car to get our luggage and our family bag and computer bag where both missing. That meant 5 passports, 2 computers, 5 birth certificates, my great grandpas pen, and some clothes and other stuff. That was the cherry on top of our stressful traveling day and we were all feeling pretty upset. It sucked. The sad thing was that we didn't really enjoy that week in Tamarindo because it was filled with dealing with all the stuff we lost and trying to get our passports figured out and trips to the police station and the Canadian Embassy. Tamarindo was really nice though and the waves where pretty awesome. Everyone was really nice, understanding, and helpful. Tamarindo was over in a flash and we were back in the car to go to Nosora.

M.T.B - Nosora

You know how some places have speed bumps? Yeah, well Nosora doesnt need speed bumps because there is no roads. Just potholes. More than you could believe. Nosora is not like Tamarindo in the way that everything is spread out and there is not really an area where you can eat and shop and the beachs are really quite. In Nosora if you want to get somewhere its pretty hard to walk because we where out of "town" and everything is pretty far apart anyways. Our house was in the middle of the jungle and so we got the listen to the howler monkeys howl and the thunderstorms that happened every single night for a week along with power outages. The surf in Nosora was really big out far plus I was riding a short board and so I didnt espesially like the surf but Nosora was defianatly an adventure. In places like Nosora and Sayulita it gets hotter when it rains and so by the time the rain comes your already dripping. Our place in Nosora really tested my tolerance with bugs. There were spiders, beatles, these huge black bugs, and a lot of MISQUETOS. I am one of those lucky people that MISQUETOS love and its great to be itchy all the time. Note: that was meant to be sarcastic. Just incase you where confused. Nosora was a pretty cool little town though. We had a fun time in the pool and the beach was one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen in my llife. It seemed to go on forever and there was only two or three people all the way at the other side and so they where just dots in the distance. Ever had lime cake? Well it's amazing and we found some guy on the side of the road selling orange juice in jars, jamacian beef PATTYS, and lime cake which I had never tried before. Nosora was deffiantly an adventure and a nice welcome to the jungle ;)

Sayulita- Where I didn’t almost get eaten

Sayulita was our first stop after the ferry and a good one too. Sayulita is a small surfer village 6 hours away from Mazatlan Mexico and we stayed there for 7 days. We stayed a block away from the beach and right in town. The surfing was great! I went surfing all day a lot and it was great. The beach was shallow and rocky on  one end so of course, thats where the waves where best. When you feel you had to land like a starfish and belly flop so that you wouldn't come up with sea urchin spikes all over your feet. One day at the beach there was this one man who came up to me in the waves and said "Hey, have you ever seen a shark?'' I hadn't and so I said that and then he just smiled and pointed underneath me. I almost had a heart attack. I couldn't see anything but I screamed and I pulled my feet onto my board and then my board flipped over and I went in with it. Under the impression that I was in the water with a shark I scrambled up and to my board again and realized by the coy look on the mans face that he was messing with me. Gosh, I wanted to push him off his stupid paddle board but instead I just laughed , pretending like I hadn’t just wet myself a bit. We stayed in a 2 bedroom place and the best part was that we were barely home because there was so much to do! We sat on the beach chairs at Captain Pueblos everyday and ate Quesadillas and met new people. Sayulita was one of my favorite places and I loved every second there.

M.T.B - Playa Del Carmen

Week 1

We stayed in a nice 2 bedroom rented home in Playa del Carmen Mexico. Stella, Olive, and I all had our own bed which felt like a luxury since we are often sharing a bed at the places. Playa del carmen is close to Cancun and it is absolutely beautiful. We went to this one beach in between the tulum ruins and Playa del carmen to go snorkelling and to see turtles and the sand was so fine and white like nothing I have ever seen before. We felt like we were in the middle of a postcard as we walked with the ocean on our right and a collage of palm trees, palapas, and towels on our left. The snorkeling that day was amazing too. We swam beside giant sea turtles and saw bright fish and huge coral. We also went snorkeling in Cozumel on that trip and it was amazing. We saw Doctor Fish, 4 eye fish, rainbow fish, a parrot fish, and so much more! The water was very clear both times and the second time we took a boat tour so we could go to different reefs. There was this taco place in Playa del Carmen with amazing El Pastor. El Pastor is pork that they put on a spit with different spices and pineapple. This restaurant was called El Futon and it was one of the best tacos I have ever had. I got the “La Gringa” taco and it actually came in between two tortillas and it had pineapple, pico de gio, onion, guacamole, and a crap load of cheese. That was our first week in Playa del Carmen and between the beach, snorkeling, the food, and our place that first week was pretty awesome.

M.T.B - Playa Del Carmen

Week 2

For our second week we were actually in between Playa Del Carmen and Cancun in a resort called the mayan palace. The resort was beautiful and I loved every second of it. The first day we arrived we got to the resort kind of late and so we just unpacked and then went to the grocery store. I saw very little of the resort on the first day but our room was gorgeous and a 2 bedroom so the whole family was delighted. On the second day we went across the street to the lobby around noon and took a golf cart to the main pool. The pool was HUGE. Along side the pool there was a beautiful beach with soccer nets, palapas, a volleyball net, darts, and beautiful piers with gazebos at the end. Every day I would go play water volleyball at 2, then do the crazy game, and then play soccer until the sun was almost set and then I would take the trolley home, eat dinner and then head out to the night entertainment with my family. For those of you who know me you will be quite surprised to know that I did quite a bit of dancing that week because every night they had a different themed dance party. I found that once I figured out the beat dancing wasnt that hard and I actually really enjoyed it. That week was a blur and I can't really write day by day because my memories at the mayan palace are all in one week and not day by day. The mayan palace was a great week though. There was one night where we went for a dinner at the restaurant on the beach and had a really nice dinner as we watched the sun set. We also did a timeshare presentation and so we got to have a buffet breakfast for free. Oh my gosh. There was a donut tree. Enough said. It was the biggest buffet i'd ever seen in my life. I ate, and ate, and ate. And then, I ate some more. The food was really good too. The best part of the resort though was that I was always busy doing different activities and also that I made a lot of friends who were my age that week and trust me, when you’ve had two 37 year olds, a 5 year old, and a 2 year old as your only friends for 4 months, friends your age are the best. I had the best time that week at the mayan palace and if you're going to cancun, mayan palace is definitely the place to be.

Tamarindo (Act 2)

Despite the first week in Tamarindo we decided to go back and give the town another shot after Nosora. We stayed in a spacious apartment across the road from the beach and it was great. Each morning Stella and I would walk and buy a couple empanadas and then we would go home and make either pancakes or cinnamon buns. After breakfast I would go surf, comiign back every 2 hours to reapply sunscreen and grab a peanut butter sandwich. The surf was good that week and I had a great time.
